However she has been a survivor and used particular tactics of self care in order to get through problems bit by bit, even a contentious divorce with years of court and a custody battle.

S E L F    C A R E

YOGA
Yoga can be mild, can be about breathing, can be athletic - it depends on the type of yoga. Some people have a pre conception that it is about contorting into crazy poses - but this is not the case. It is about breathing. To begin, find restorative or beginner yoga and remember many classes are at a mixed level - you do your best in the class and go into child's pose if it gets too much - you work at YOUR level and yoga is NOT about achievement. Teachers and students know this so there is NO reason to be embarrassed if you can't do something, it is not about DOING it is about turning your attention inward, to pay attention to how YOU feel inside, to breathe a certain way all the way through the practice and to prepare for meditation (or just feel very happy at the end, accepting and very relaxed). It is also called a practice, so you will practice your way at your level, it is not about achieving and comparing. An advanced person simply has to work harder to get the yoga high, whereas a beginner gets the high form a few simple stretches.


AFFIRMATIONS
Affirmation Videos.
Don't have a parent to tell you how brilliant you are every day? (who does!) Use these videos as a meditation of sorts. Watch them with a cup of hot lemon and ginger and espresso while given yourself time to breathe - in about 10 minutes you will feel happy and ready to conquer the world! Taking the time to sit in the morning for 20 minutes and wake up can make a huge difference to your attitude and energy in the day.
We know these sound cheesy, but if you wake up with anxiety and low self worth, Mme. Dr. Gustave has found these every soothing and effective - the idea is that you listen to someone else telling you how you feel, that you are lucky, should be grateful, that you are brilliant and successful and then somehow invisibly your neural pathways that have formed that are about you telling yourself you are not really good, worthy or happy, get reformed. After reforming you wake up happier, confident and believing in yourself. Sometimes it wears off and if you sit down in the morning with your tea or coffee or hot lemon, gage how you feel - if you feel unworthy or anxious, watch the video for 10 minutes or more. THEN turn on the news. Or avoid the news if it makes you feel bad.

TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF TO DO NOTHING
Mme Dr. Gustave learned form an eminent New Yorker, that lying in bed or on a sofa and just gazing at the ceiling, not sleeping but thinking, reflecting about your day, month, life can be very productive for ideas and remembering things. Zone out.

TAKE NAPS
If you have a ton of stress or have 12 hr days - take time for disco naps. For some people they do not work. But if you can figure out what works for you - 9 minutes, 12 or 17? 25 or 45? You will find that you might feel incredibly refreshed if you can get yourself horizontal for just 10 minutes. Some people nap in their cars, their offices or in libraries - if you are lucky enough to have privacy at work or work at home, take naps instead of feeling like you need ot be up and busy all day long. Mothers- nap when your children nap and let the dust bunnies accumulate, you will be MORE productive if you rest a little. IN Europe some businesses close for 2 hrs at lunch and then are open until 8. In many southern cultures people do siesta, they eat and sleep, then go back to work.  trust me - yrou productivity and endurance will increase!

NON NEGITIABLE ME TIME  - WORK ANDOR YOGA AND SAUNA
It can be helpful to announce to your family - on Saturday mornings I am going to betaking yoga classes - see you later. Think about it - men do this all the time - they say "I am going fishing on Sunday - bye. When do we do that - we ask, we feel bad or guilty that we are not with our family, But if you spend just 2 hrs alone you might be a 10 times better mother afterwards.
If you are at home or do not have kids - simply choose an exercise class or time when you will do your self care - yoga workouts, classes. I also recommend the sauna, dry or wet. It detoxifies the body after a workout and is wonderful to fend off colds and burn extra calories, as well to zone out, and think. Ditch your phone, lie down and sweat, close your eyes, ruminate in your mind!


HOT BATHS
Everyone has a bathtub and therefore an in home spa. If you grew up in Europe this may be something you do all the time, especially in the winter....

Baths detoxify the body, warm areas up that you never knew were cold, and help flush out estrogen ladies! Especially if you use dead sea salts or epsom salts. Run hot water, very hot (if necessary clean the bath with bleach cleaner first). Close the door, light a candle and relax in the high hot water.

These are good products to put in your bath - salts and oils! The salts pull out toxins and the oils nourish all skin and provide nice aromatherapy that helps you relax.

EAT WELL
You already know that junk food effects your organs, your body physically and mentally - eat whole fresh foods, learn how to cook! Get a basic cook book! More on this later.
It can be helpful for some people to eliminate gluten and white starchy foods.
Eat breakfast like a king, then a modest lunch with protein, and salad for dinner....

CONNECT WITH FRIEND - EVEN IF THEY ARE FAR AWAY
Contact an old friend via e-mail and make a time to talk - are they far away? Who cares - many people communicate daily via messenger or text or phone. If you have local friend, go to lunch, or take your pet for a walk - yes pets are also good anti depressants as are walks! No friends? Look fro a meetup group in your area or for your own, or volunteer somewhere to have some interaction with others. Or take a trip and visit an area where you know many people. tell them you are in town - suggest coffee or tea.


TAKE HOT LEMON - GINSENG -  TUMERIC - BEE POLLEN AND GINGER TEA IN THE MORNING BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE
Make this tea by shaving frozen ginger and frozen tumeric off with a knife into a cut. Keep the bulbs in the freezer to use easily. You can peel the skin off first. Add ginseng powder and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Poor hot water over it. drink this before coffee to prime your digestion and wake up - drink it while watching affirmations! Don't think they have it in your town? Check the veggie section of your grocery store - you might be surprised. Or visit your local asian market! Don’t use powder - it is just not the same and not fresh, tasted horrible. I add a spoon of organic raw honey and also some bee pollen -


S U P P L E M E N T S

Mme Dr. Gustave looks 10 years younger than she really is. While it is credited to good genes and a good lifestyle and self care, supplements may have played a role.
